Simu-gwan, named after the founder of the university, Simudang Kim Maeng-seok, was erected in August 1999. It contains the University Headquarters (Chairman’s Office, President’s Office, and Administrative Office), student support facilities, International Conference Room, Lecture Hall, Medical Room and the research and practicum labs of some of the departments of Humanities and Social Sciences including the Dept. of Hotel Tourism and Flight English, Dept. of Japanese Language, Dept. of Chinese Language, as well as the Dept. of Business Administration, Dept. of Police Administration, Dept. of Urban Administration, and Dept. of Visual Design.
This is a student welfare center that was erected in September 2012. It contains various facilities for students, including the Students’ Office, Student Committee’s Office, club offices, convenience stores, coffee shops and lounges.
The Women’s Dormitory, which opened on March 2, 2004, is specifically for female students who are preparing for national exams and civil servant exams (incl. police exams). A studious environment is created for the residents, and they are also provided with assistance in the acquisition of knowledge and skills necessary to pass the various national exams, thereby helping to enhance the prestige of U1U.
The cafeteria, the construction of which was completed in June 1995, can accommodate about 600 people simultaneously on the 1.166,41m2 floor. It is comprised of a student cafeteria (1F), faculty cafeteria (2F) and a store. It is run by a specialized food and beverage service provider.
This is one of the earliest buildings that were built on campus (1994), and it hosted the School Opening Ceremony and the 1st Enrolment Ceremony. It contains the central library as well as a viewing room, bookstore and copy room. It is also the location of the lecture halls and practicum and research labs of some of the science and technology departments including the departments of Smart IT, Information and Communication Security and Invention and Intellectual Property as well as the Education departments, including Elementary Special Education, Secondary Special Education and Early Childhood Education, and the Department of Social Welfare. Also, the Student Counseling Center, U1U Broadcasting Station and Disabled Student Support Center are located here.
Built in 1998, Tamgu-gwan contains the lecture halls and practicum and research labs of the healthcare departments such as Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Therapy as well as the departments of Hotel Food Service and Culinary Arts, Cosmetic Science and Technology, Medical and Life Sciences and Architecture.
The Regional Bio Innovation Center was established in July 2001, with the support of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Chungcheongbuk-do Province, to promote technical innovation and infrastructure for the bio-industry. It contains the Soil Pollution Investigation Center, which employs U1U’s human resources and equipment to resolve the difficulties faced by small and medium enterprises out in the field, and pursue academic-industrial-research technology development projects.
It contains the lecture halls and labs of the departments of Sports Studies and Martial Arts, as well as a fitness training room.
It is the location of the lecture hall and research and practicum lab of the Department of Wine Fermentation and Food & Beverage Service as well as a wine gallery and the Grape Processing Research Institute.
The center contains the beauty care and hair styling practice rooms, lecture hall, viewing room and professor research lab of the Department of Beauty Care.
U1 National Sports Center was established jointly by U1U and Yeongdong-gun (project cost: KRW 400 mil., completion date: Aug. 2009). It is a 3-story building with one basement floor and a building area of 3,295m2. It contains a swimming pool and fitness training room.
U1U students can use the facilities for 2,000 won/day. The hours of operation are from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and holidays.
The Senior-Friendly Enterprise Support Center was established in 2008, with a financial assistance of KRW 3.1 billion from Chungcheongbuk-do Province, with the aim of promoting and creating a network of institutions in the senior-friendly industry (food, cosmetics and household goods) based in Yeongdong-gun. It contains the Food Sanitation Inspection Center, which performs food quality control inspections, and Y-COZ, which is a cosmetics ODM/OEM under U1U and original manufacturer of functional and herbal cosmetics.
The Academic-Industrial Cooperation Center is the office of the Academic-Industrial Cooperation Group of U1U, which operates and manages joint education, technology exchange and research projects conducted together with the local enterprises. It contains the Start-up Business Cradle Center, which promotes start-up by providing administrative, finance, business management and technical support, as well as theChild Development Support Center, and SME Cooperation Center. With the business partners and start-up companies, Academic-Industrial Cooperation Center provides opportunities for students to gain field experience.
This is where various indoor events including the enrolment and graduation ceremonies and sporting events such as badminton, basketball and volleyball competitions hosted by U1U are held here. It is also the training center for U1U’s Kendo Team, which is nationally renowned.
This facility is mainly used by the Department of Sports Studies, and their practice room and lab, fitness training room and professor research rooms are located here.
